Dry Dock Shout Outs

Introducing your act as the good-old-stormcellar-boys-band is a great way to start your night off and with the bar staff decked out in Blues Brothers couture, we were set for a good night.

Our thanks go to the last word in drumming, Mr Henry Silwka for manning the deputy sticks on emergency secondment and cheers to Chris, Cath, Dave, Colm and everyone who came along last night.

We had a moment or two of car trouble at the end of the gig after metal fatigue caused Repo some grief, so our biggest thanks of the night go out to Jasmine for rescuing him :-)

Carl, our Golden Roadie, is on holidays at the moment and he normally would have been the one to bail us out.  .....wish you were here...LOL. Hope you're having a good time in Europe!

At the Blues Jam

Howdy Folks.

I dropped into the Bald Faced Stag to catch the Musos Club Jam Night, hosted by our good mate Mr Finn and caught some good grooves.

Here's Dan, who is back on form after a medical scare. It's great to see him back in action.

The Bald Faced Stag had a metal event on in the room next door, so the pub was filled with a range of ages, but it was funny to see the Thrash fans watching the blues guitarists get down. Trying to head bang to R&B is hard.

Some more great work from the night

If you haven't been out to play, or watch at your local jam night, its about time. You'll hear the terrific, the lame and all flavours in between. Its jams like this, that keep the music alive.

altHello hello!

Dunno if you've ever done this, but when you write a blog on MySpace there's a bit at the end where you can show the album cover of something you've been listening to that you've been digging or want people to think you've been digging as the case may be.

But there is no facility to add a great gig you've been to recently.

Which leads me to a gig that I went to a week or so ago from my favourite band in Sydney - The Alcohotlicks.

I would say that they are a little bit underground, a little bit left of field. The first time I saw them (and I've seen them many times since) I really didn't know how to listen to it but I was struck enough to want to go back for more. Their music is all instrumental and the band comprises two guitars and drums. What draws me to them is the adventure and sheer beauty and ballsiness in their music.

So the other night they were playing a rare gig at 505 in Surry Hills and it was a whole set of new music. As they played through each new piece one stood out head and shoulders, now I don't know the name, but it was introduced as "a blues, but a blues as Sonic Youth would play it". And that's exactly what it was. There came a point where the world dropped away and the music simply overtook the venue - we were all transported with them on the journey.

Music for football lovers - Pendle Inn gig report

Howdy Folks. Another fine night at the PI, with multiple football matches on, it was hard to determine whether the applause was for us or the Wallabies. Ye gods.

Cheers to Henry for taking up the deputy drumming reins last night! I still have to ask A.B what Henrys gig nickname is...hmmm...I wonder.

We have been in the wars this week - Theo was on hand (no pun) with his Arm Cast at 90 degrees, only a parrot short of a pirate, Rosie's got a tooth problem necessitating significant (legal) painkillers, I have a cold, Repo has destroyed his phone in a Luddite moment and yet the show must (and did) go on! Yay!

A shout out to Dave, T, Jim and Bev for visiting with us. :-)
