From now on, we want a bouncy castle on our rider.

Mini Pancakes. Great weather.

10/10 for organisation.

Long Session

Jo was with us this weekend and today was her turn in audio land. We got a lot more done than I had planned.

Mainly because there was more to do than I had accounted for.

I'm not sure whether this is accurate, but it feels like we've spent longer/done more on this album. Maybe it's that SC10/11 ran together. It's been almost 18 months worth of work to get these both together.

Today, I thought we'd hit the milestone of 'no more tracking'.

Ah.

Except for some Percussion.

Ah.

And maybe some adjusted harmonies.

Ah.

And 1 last set of guests.

Right.

But other than that, done, right?

Oh yeah.

Also that whole vocal for Minor Miracle that you haven't finished writing yet.

Ricky-Ricardo-Double-Facepalm-OMG-Reaction-Gif.gif

(sigh).

Ok so we're gonna need another session.

We're moving towards mixing, notwithstanding any of these minor issues. A minor miracle indeed.

Watching the Detectives

No band is an island, separated from the stream.

The twenty first century truly is upon us, shrugging off the hold of the past.

It's reckless to think the future is the same as the past. It's hope to believe it to be different.

I was talking to J the other day, he said 'your band name is a bit apocalyptic isn't it?'

It's funny that should come to mind.

Maybe, when the weather darkens, thoughts turn to safe places.

I replied, that when we started, it was more a reference to the Wizard of Oz than Vault 77 but hey;a decade's a long time in the future.

Votf.jpg

As this isn't my first apocalypse, I can fashion a thought or two.

Start with taking some time for yourself, get some breathing space.

Jo comes and sings with a band. that's how she does it.

I play in one. That's one of the tools I use to get by.

Making some meaning out of it. Whatever it is.

Down here in the Mystical land of Oz there's still Blue Sky and Pancakes.

Takes some effort to be part of it.

All the good stuff does.

We're glad you're part of what we do, hope you're doing your own thing.

Tide comes in, tide goes out. Gotta pay attention when the water laps at your feet.

Time to stand up.

Our great thanks to Stuart Van Der Graaf and Michael Hawke.

Theo had the idea to add Flute to 'I disappear' and we took a few extra risks.

It wasn't until all the parts came together that it started to make sense.

Whew.

It'll make sense when you hear the final.

Ok. It might make sense.

Maybe.

Possibly.

True Story.

Last minute chasing of battery powered amps was not enthusiastically embraced by members of the crew.

This is entirely in keeping with the idea of this tour.

in case you haven't been paying attention, Entropy is at work all over the world.

Ride the chaos! Yeeha!

Musical Explorers & musical forks - SC11 recording continues

So I haven't finished the art for Safe Harbour yet. Got a few samples. Still working.

Masters are in. Final logistical details to clean up. Naming. ISRC codes. Getting the credits right.

Putting all that aside.

We did two SC11 sessions this week. I'm not sure whether everything we tried worked. I'm OK with that.

There comes a point where you reach a fork in the road, so to speak. Which way will the song go?

If it leads to a dead end, turn around, go back.

In a way, we continue the great tradition of Australian Explorers - lost in the bush calling 'coooeee' to one another.

We have two more sessions scheduled and then? well?

Are we done yet?

Nope.

Still more risks to take.

We have at least three more elements to try.

Nobody draws a map for this stuff, pack plenty of of water and biscuits.

Safe harbour masters in, echoes of your words, be careful what you wish for

Gracias A Senor Lynch.

Listening to Safe Harbour.

It's interesting to hear the phrases out there in the zeitgeist. Nice to know we're connected.

Safe harbour, Rogue state.

Fair and reasonable Self Doubt

Safe Harbour is another of our chosen risks.

If we ever needed to underline that we work in a different time, the possibility that this album exists is that bright red line.

The multi media concept was that we would get 'The' take of the guitar element, along with the sound of the environment, both as video and audio.

Check.

The guitars are most often the voices that bring the songs out in the band, the most common tongue.

Listening to the birds, the waves, the sounds of the city, recorded in glistening modern high tech HD and High Audio capture, then detailed mixed and mastered.

Far out.

This is butter for your ears.

But it's gotta be your type of thing.

Now what?

LOL.

Be Careful What You Wish For.

Mr L wisely called it. 'Safe Harbour' is the companion to 'Rogue State'. (SC10 and 11 respectively)

They're built to flow from one album to the other.

4473180.jpg

Yet - they're both stand alone pieces with different themes and sonic approaches.

So...

Do we:

A: release SC10 as a Stand Alone digital download (probably)

B: Press it as a stand alone CD (well...maybe....maybe a small hand crafted run and a short run)

C: wait for SC11 and release it in a double pressing (yes for sure but....time)

Rogue State has more work to do to rise to the level of Safe Harbour. Gonna take the time that it takes.

Safe Harbour Artwork's not even finalised.

Gig tonight, recording session for Rogue State tomorrow.

I'll post some of the last session with Stuart on Flute and Sax when I get a chance.
