The inevitable logistics of Being & other grumblings of the self propelled artist.

My Sydney morning was bright blue with sunshine and cool early spring air. How wonderful.

Thoughts go to to all the folks in the middle of Storms out there.

Meanwhile in the stormcellar

I have PDF templates for Album Art to wrap my head around. The SC11 art is still in concept state.

It took a while for Safe Harbour, it's taking a shorter but understandable period for good final art for Rogue State.

Almost done.

As Self Propelled Artists, we are responsible for making our own beds and leaving a mint on our own pillows.

To complete the album(s) to a CD pressing (OMG How Retro, right, right?) we need to;

1. Conclude the mix

2. Issue the mix to the masterer

3. Give the masterer an accurate list of names and order.

4. To ensure that the list of names is right, we need to conform it to the Published Song list at APRA, or register the song. Sometimes you forget what the official title was. Gotta get that right.

5. Give the masterer the ISRC codes, unique ID's for digital reference. Cos these days, so much is digital and so much meta data goes with digital release. You have to do some data checking to make sure you get it right.

6. Once the masterererererer is done, we get a Disc Description Protocol formatted file, or, a DDP file. This is today's equivalent of a 'master' tape. The DDP contains all the songs and the Meta Data. Why? Cos you lot like it when your blutetooth player gives you all the info about the song, like who done it.

Ok? Great!

Done!

Nope.

It's ARTYWORK!!! YAAAY!

I am grateful that M. and his art squad kindly forgive my lack of leaving Bleed space at the edge of the art. I'm better at that now.

So what's the scoop here?

1. Get the art done. Umm...Yeah...that.

2. Get all that Meta Data, names, who, thanks, an entire online shared document worth of who did what when.

3. Squeeze it all into teeeeny leeetle font inside a 12cm square page or two.

4. Decide you can't fit it all in.

5. Realise that Mr Wizard cannot physically see any front below 12 point.

6. Argue with yourself that Comic Sans is really a fun font and whats the beef, amiright?

7. Get a barcode

8. Issue catalogue numbers

9. Fit that in somewhere.

10. Add the lyrics.

11. Remove the lyrics because it only fits in 3 point font.

12. Reboot your machine 3 times because Microsoft Loves You

13. Show it to the guys.

14. Get it proofed. Oops. Oh. Oops #2.

15. Export it to a PDF, upload and hey presto.

16. Get an email explaining you forgot the bleed area, so fix that and re export and upload everything again. Once or twice.

Hmm..

In the gilded age, there were people for that. you could sit around the fireplace on your jet plane and chill.

I think today may have been the final studio day for SC11.

The last chance for mixes comes at this final review point, then it's off to mastering.

This marks almost two years of production, or more correctly, continues 11 years of making stuff.

For SC10 and 11 we've taken lots of risks. Some paid off, some were more like...

foxplow112.gif

Today, I went in expecting to fix some vocals by doing some drop ins, turns out it was just a matter of mixing. I have a tendancy to minimise the 'S' at the end of sentences. It's like a built in De-Esser. Sorted.

A few tweaks from Mr Wizard, a few bits of back and forth and. oh.

Wow.

We're there?

Now we listen to the finals.

Ok, so our erstwhile virtual manager Roger did a press release about the song we did with Danny in KC to help get out the vote.

Apparently it got picked up by hundred of publications, blogs and websites world wide.

Also: Texas.

Including Cleveland. Now you're talking (what up Fam!) http://www.cleveland19.com/story/39015317/musician-danny-cox-and-band-stormcellar-turns-we-the-people-into-a-voting-anthem

And it case you aren't in Cleveland or  Punxsutawney (WOOT! Hey Phil!)

main vocal tracking for SC11 now complete

Look at the groupings and WAV heights. Can't promise it's In Tune or that I remembered the words, but, ta daaaa....

In a excellent moment of nominative determinism, this was the vocal for 'Minor Miracle'. I was still scratching out words until just before recording time, and it has been almost 3 months since it was up to Final Mix Where Are The Vocals?

A minor miracle indeed.

With this, principal vocal recording is completed. There's still one more song I'd like to try and have a crack at. As it's 'optional' it may/may not make it onto this album.

We'll see.

If I can get it done before Ben finishes mixing and the guys make any final tweaks, well and good, otherwise, we move onwards and SC11 is.....

Patience is required.

The Age of the internet wars and personal power

Not telling you how to be

Just telling you what we see

This guy is out of his mind

Can’t do anything

Until my book deal is signed

The Attention wars gave way to the Information Wars.

Humanity got a kick start into a new system when the tech rolled to the next level of Round Rock. The Wheel Mark X.

Stand aside Gutenberg Bible, printing press. The Primates on Earth have unleashed a new connected virtual assisted mind. They don’t know what it does.

The collapse of ages into micro decades. A year is three. Welcome to the future. Things have sped up.

A middle aged humanity starts to see the universe flying by at faster speeds.

Each pulse of change comes faster until the transition phase leads to somewhere beyond the event horizon. Hooray for Oz.

From 1990-2000, from 2000-2008 and then from 2008-2016. The ages of maturity like rings in the internet tree.

When we as a band came into being, it was the beginning of the attention wars

LIKE ME LOOK AT ME SUBSCRIBE LIKE LIKE

If people behaved like that in your living room, you’d ask them to stop.

Infancy. Make noise. Need attention.

By 2016 the next outcome of the change was the Information War.

We’re deep in it now.

What is real? What is true?

Facts come back.

Opinions burn.

Write’em down

Only facts return

We are what we think. We own it, good and bad.

To borrow from the bumper stickers, we’re stalked by the wolf of our nature that we feed.

Surrounding yourself with thought is to be influenced by it, to be as the planets are, gravity bound and compelled.

The first step is awareness.

Personal power is the right to choose which of these orbits you follow.

The very words you read get loaded into your mind, they prime you, like a magician’s trick.

You are safer, more powerful and more able to do something about your circumstances than you may be aware.

Anyone who wants to tell you otherwise starts from a basis of diminishing your own power.
