Smoke affects continue

Woke up this morning to another blanket of smoke over the city.

Everyone's got a cough, it's been affecting everyone.

Just when it looked like it was clearing up, and it was grand to have a few days of clear(er) air, now it's back again.

Mr Wizard called me last night to talk about the outdoor show on Saturday. We have to look at the options AGAIN. Ye gods.

Smoke is starting to become a factor in our planning.

It's not that Sydney hasn't had bushfires before, some have probably even come a little closer to the centre of town than this recent lot, it's the inescapable, cough inducing smog.

It's necessitated a trip to the doctor for at least one band family member.

The sunlight has been orange for weeks, hanging clothes out on the line is inadvisable and everyone's buying Masks for breathing.

Up in the mountains, they did back burning and lost another 20 houses.

Oh yeah and yesterday was Australia's hottest day on record.

Not much to do but to wait it out. Our thoughts remain with the people closer to the front line of the burning and the firey's out there trying to do something about it.

We're waiting to see how the air is for Saturday before we venture outside.

if you're in Sydney, stay safe and indoors if you can.

I got the Gnochhi and stories of mythical pasta

Since we started the 'weather permitting' project I have been blown away by the artisans and crafts folk out there in our little old community.

A while back, I tried Nonna Maria's Gnocchi.

Heck I am a risk taker.

I was 10/10 Full On Italian grandma Level Awesome.

It's taken me months to hook up with it again.

Yesss...today was my day.

This is a genius with a potato:

Once upon a time I had a perfect pasta in Leichhardt. I have been chasing that Boscaiola for 20 years.

When I experienced this dish I realised i had found a worthy successor.

Well played Nonna Maria.

You got game.

Big game.

I dig these market shows. Thanks guys, I know you all went to an effort.

Smoke filled valleys on the way up, blazing sun. Fire engines hurtling past on the way home.

Things are still pretty hairy out there for folks.

We did a small fundy thing yesterday for the Firies. What a time.

Makes me grateful for the small stuff.

Like a perfect dumpling :-)

Thanks Nonna.

Tour planning is some work all right

I can't bring myself to say all the stuff that is on my mind when doing the tour planning.

It's some logistical Kung Fu, I tell ya.

Each time we do this I genuinely question my capacity to manage the process. If anyone tells you this is easy, please give them my number.

I am fairly sure I have written that, here, before.

Dates, equipment, transport, other logistics. Yikes.

As I was resolving the Next problem that arose today (it always happens) I flashed back to when we had to can the 2017 Tour 7 days before, when one of the guys had a health scare. That was actually a pretty easy decision, even factoring all the work that had gone into it.

That makes me feel pretty comfortable that we can make the hard calls when we need to.

At the same time, the little things like figuring out how to make distance and travel with 6+ people and a car load of gear in US Winter is giving me some pause for thought.

At least the smoke here has dropped off somewhat. Only just noticed the birds are singing again.

Ok, so, back to the calcs, miles to the Gallon, distance and....(sigh).

Whose bright idea was this? Oh yeah we won that comp thing. Right.

This Saturdays' show pending smoke dissipation.

I did a show outside during the smoke, 3 weeks back. I'm still recovering.

It does no good for singing whatsoever; I'm not doing that again.

This has been a totally bonkers period, I don't think anyone predicted 'smoke' as a reason to cancel a show.

We'll be monitoring conditions over the next couple of days and will post up here depending on outcome.

It was just plain dangerous yesterday and only 'hazy' today, which was about the same conditions as the last time I tried it.

If conditions continue as they are, it'll be a No from me, which will bum us all out.

Even so, our thoughts first and foremost are with the firefighters and the folks who have been affected by this 'perfect firestorm'.

Bloody heck.
