One guy gets all the Girls, Rosie makes a face and MJEB Gets all poetic - Royal Bondi Gig report

Howdy Folks. That was a big night.

The Ladies were Out For A Night.

Heh. As predicted, Rosie's response to me reading out Jim Morrison Poetry during the opening of South of the Border (recently renamed 'wine to water' to avoid confusion with royalty cheques)  was priceless.

Rosie's expression can be characterised using the eloquently descriptive parlance of our times; 'WTF?'. That was so worth it.

As I began the reading, using my handy dandy LED flashlight, Rosie was looking at me wonderingly. I shall provide an imagined subtext to each peculiar glance he gave.

Look 1: Oh god he's started on something weird again

Look 2: WTF are you doing?

Look 3: Wtf? Are you stilI doing it?

Look 4: Why are you looking at me with that big @*#$ eating grin?

Look 5: What is that you're saying?

Rosie does all this cool ambient stuff at the beginning of Texas Rosie that always put me in mind of a Jim Morrison a la 'When the musics over'

(All Hail The Lizard King!)

and usually I add a voice over during this bit, something about 'lost on a lonely highway, a man clutching the Kindle Edition of poems by Jim Morrison wanders in search of a forgotten Taco stand'

Sometimes I add 'taco taco taco'

 Sometimes Theo yells 'Ole'

Both Mr Wizard and Rosie are 'serious' musicians and frown upon my introduction of Random Silliness (see here for other things I am not allowed to do) but sometimes I just can't help it. So instead of referencing Mr Morrison, i thought it was high time we actually did some and thanks to the Internet, there were reams of Jame Douglas Morrison's Consciousness available to download and print.

I mentioned the idea to Mr Wizard whilst showing him some Alan Ginsberg stuff and Mr Wizard wanted it for the start of Wine To Water, so I obliged, which then produced the described result. Ah priceless.

Okay, so that was one memorable moment.

The second item of note is the mark of respect we must issue to this gentlemen who proved the adage, Snow On the Roof, Fire in Stove, who proceeded to dance with almost all the ladies present.

Whilst the local young bucks sat around watching in wonder, playing air guitar along with the band or drinking their beer, this chap was up, active and cutting the rugs with the girls.

This proved inspirational and gradually, as the night continued, the usual Australian reticence to dance gave way

Hired Guns & Borrowed Glory First Full Mixes are in!

Details
Created: 09 June 2012

We've unexpectedly passed another milestone today as the first complete set of mixes for all 13 songs emerged from this afternoons session.

Mr Wizard got his dates wrong, Theo was unavailable and Rosie didn't think he'd make the brief review session we envisaged, leaving it to yours truly and Pete to do the final tweaks. MUAHAHAHA!!!! Feel the Power! Now I can add in all the secret accordion solo's I have been planning.

Or not.

Great! So where does this leave us? Well, we have scheduled a Drum and Percussion review day for Theo, we'll all be listening to the initial mixes and making yet more notes. Pete will be doing the same.

That means we wont be finished next week, but thereafter? It's anyone's guess.

Hooray, we're getting closer!
