Tuvan throat singing and the blues

Despite recent suggestions to the contrary, I have not completely lost my mind. I admit, not everyone goes off on a Tuvan Throat Singing bender, but we all have our quirks.

I was randomly googling and came across a link between Tuvan Throat Singing and The Blues, via Paul 'Earthquake' Pena, writer of 'Jet Airliner' (yea, that one, you know, Steve miller didn't write it. Wow. Ok, another addition to the long list of things I didn't previously know.)

So here's Earthquake mixing Delta Blues and Kargyraa style Tuvan Throat Singing.

You can thank me for keeping your mind blown, later.

Random blog about overtone singing

Howdy folks, here's some random coolness I had to share. .

Whilst listening to the current mixes/masters of the new album, I have been marveling at an effect Rosie uses, adding a harmonic overtone in one of the songs. I googled overtones and started listening to Tuvan Throat singing. Hey, I warned you this was random

I came across this clip that blew my mind.

It almost sounds like a Prairie Western, it reminds me a little of Tinariwen (modern day Mali roots of the blues) with its one-chord-no-changes link back to early folk/blues styles.

There's just something about this stuff that really has me going at the moment. You might even find me wandering around trying my hand at Khoomei singing. Great melodies in there.

Mastering progress almost complete

Howdy folks, just rebuilding the article we lost on our mastering last week.

Boy I wish you could have seen those articles, the humour, the pathos, the brilliant writing.

Of course if you did see those articles, just go along with me.

Here's some of the artefacts from Turtlerock - Rick has gathered some truly unique stuff, including components from Abbey Road that saw the likes of Floyd and The Beatles.

Ah, I remember something I wrote in the article - I tried asking Rick to sum up a lifetimes worth of knowledge about mastering for this blog.

Fortunately he didn't hurt me for asking, but here's a snappy answer to a stupid question (for all you MAD fans)

We've been reviewing the mix and the mastering and there's a teeny little tweak we have to fix and then that's it kids.

Meanwhile I gotta finish the art so we can get this thing pressed.

Howdy Folks.

In case some of you are wondering WTF did the last weeks articles go..well..

Just remember that warning I posted about how we're reintegrating the old articles and how some stuff might go wrong with the database.

 Oh...wait...

That article got deleted this afternoon.

 Ah.

Well, this warning might not last long either, but glad to say, the archives are almost back with us. Hurrah!

 Stay tuned for further developments.
