MJEB's All Colours Blues Tour Blog - Part 16 - Art and Death in KC

Howdy Folks.

Regular 'Cellar Dwellers know that when the bloggin's light, we're 'processing' in the background. Ye gods these geek references are getting worse. Maybe it's a sign.

it's a sign alright. we're flat out. Recording this weekend, rehearsing last weekend yadda excuses right returning to blog.

Ahem.

 Day 21 - Pilgrimmage

Maintaining Band Discipline is an art. too tight and you're ignored or hit with soap in socks. Too loose, you miss the bus, although with Theo, that's not likely to happen. he's an on time kinda guy.

Between gigs and recording there wasn't a lot of downtime but we made an effort to get Bill to a cherished destination.

Hey there, Bird.

 IMG_7886.jpg

Finding his grave site was a little tricky.

IMG_7889.jpg

and as part of a well rounded, healthy band outing, a trip to KC's Rockwell Nelson art gallery.

There's a certain sense of Grand Scale going on in the US. I don't know how we wound up building so many small pokey things down here when we have just as much space. Sort of.

Ok so Kansas may be a bit flatter. But that's not the point. Wake up Australia. we need some stonking big public structure. Forget the Big Banana or the Big Prawn, give me the ABSOLUTELY HUUUUGE FRICKIN PRAWN. The COLOSSAL Banana.

Rant over.

Back to art.

We chose the sculpture garden for the maximum walkingest art experience.

This pretty much marked the end of our KC time, we were due to head for Iowa for one last show, then back to Chicago for a day as a tourst. Yes I know we did that last time but we had Jo with us this time and it was her first go, capiche?

So, two more blogs and I am done. Maybe one. We'll see.

Next episode

- I am a good citizen now, ja?

- Play that weird one you play

- Navy Pier

- Home again

Hanging out and playing each other songs

I've been doing so much clicking that I have stayed away from posting stuff for a few days. Nonetheless the blog rolls and on so do we.

Mr Wizard remarked that 'once you've gone cello you've lost all musical sensibility you wannabe-pop-douche you'

Fie on that say I.

HA!

I just spent the afternoon with Geoff, Rosie and Bill adding some cello to The flood and 'that song that shall not be named' to see how it sounded and.

It was, in Bill's words, Brutal.

That means 'good' for all you lost in translationers.

With luck, we'll be able to share it soon.

Of course after rehearsal came the round of showing each other clips from you tube and saying 'hey have you hear this'

From rap to Tibetan Chanting and French Electronica in one afternoon.

That's what's fun about being in a band. Sitting around and playing each other favourite songs. Decrying each others tastes (don't mention my penchant for BOC).

Anyways, as part of that general theme, I mentioned some europop by our mate in Berlin and Verschleiert! here ya go.

We cool you know.

Rosies guitar is sampled in this track which is the whole connection deal about mates and songs and so forth. trust me, I am on theme. Click play and enjoy.

Cheers Craig.

Rosie's All Colours Blue Tour Photos Part 4: Danny Cox' Yard Party

Hiya,

One of the highlights of the tour was playing Danny Cox’ yard party – Coxstock. The time spent playing and hanging out was wonderful. Setting up in the blazing sun, firing up and playing some of our stuff and then being the house band to some of Kansas City’s finest was terrific. The warm welcome we received, the hospitality, the conversations with Mr Millage Gilbert, Mr KC Kelsey, Mr Ron Teamer, Mr DC Bellamy, Mr Dawayne Gilly and of course Mr Danny Cox are memories I’ll carry with me.

I was on and off stage as Mr Wizard, Double Bill and TWanders formed the backbone of the house band which meant that I had much time to take some photos. Here’s a few. You’ll note that there may be several of the same subject – it’s because the variations in movement show a moment in time that were worth capturing.

Here we go ...

The arrival - okay so you may have figured it that I might not have taken this photo. You might be correct. Thankyou MJEB - proof that I was actually present! That's Danny welcoming us. He's a gentleman ... but don't tell!

This is Millage Gilbert. In amongst his career he can include that he used to play with Elmore James. If you've watched MJEB's footage you'll have heard what a touch he has. He's got a commanding presence on stage as well.

Here's a few more of Millage.

MJEB joined the Theo, Bill and Mr Wizard in backing Millage for a couple of tunes.

Now this is Mr Ron Teamer - he's got his own flavour and gets his boogie on!

Now this is Mr KC Kelsey - the guitar storm that came from his hands was simply scary!

It was a hell of an afternoon - one to remember.

Cheers,

Rosie

Howdy Folks. I've been light on the gig blogs because I got caught up in that videoclip for Push Me Away.

We played the Cruelty free festival a few weekends back, here's our afternoon, compressed into a few minutes, set to the background music of Jefferson.

Music by our mates.

Our mates are making music too.  Both Rosie and Paul shared some stuff that they had been involved with.

Rosie dropped some eurofunk disco on me the other day, courtesy of C in Berlin, maybe i'll get to link.

Mr Wizard dropped a cd off with some songs by our mate and site contributor Terry Lyndon and I've been digging on it for the past few days and thought I might share some of it.

Mr Lyndon has quite the turn of phrase. This track, 'another day' has a refrain that I just can't shake. i wanna get it. But i just dont get it. :-)

Almost english pop sensibilities with Terry's pragmatically dark view of the world, mixed with a hidden optimism.

Another of Sydneys hidden talents :-)

Check him out on soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/studio366

looks like Terry pulled 'burned' from the web oh well. Removed from the article. Sic Transit Gloria Website.
