Burst of activity as tracks start to arrive

AJ's initial mixes are arriving so close to a finished state that this is moving slightly faster than I had anticipated.

Oh.

We're in an interesting Age for Music/ians.

When to release tracks is up to us. Ditto on how, where and so on. There's no one else to make the decisions. #selfpropelledartist.

I was expecting a leisurely stroll towards finishing this album and months to agonise over this sort of thing

Our good mate Val once told me 'fer chrissake STOP releasing so many damn albums' :-)

The Stormcellar Marketing Department (yes we have one, yes it's me) agrees, sort of.

Mind you, the marketing department pretty much went to lunch some time ago, leaving me with a voice message saying 'let it all ride on number 22' and I haven't seen me since.

I occasionally send myself marketing suggestions and interesting tidbits I read online from my secluded Billionaire Bunker.

The theory used to be that you spaced out releases. Prince was reputedly obliged to hold back many releases to avoid over saturation. LOL. Prince. Oversaturated. The Very Purple One.

Respect.

By comparison, Miles Davis used to churn out what he wanted, when he wanted. I think.

That's two very different ways of going about it.

As I write this and think about it, I realise we're going to release what we can, as often as we can.

I'm glad we had this talk :-) Cheers for the help.

Physical mixing on SC9 commenced and wtf to release

Yoiks and away.

AJ has started the proper mixing on SC9.

Track by track, the ninth album will come together over the next few months.

This will be the first time we have mixed remotely...no hang on...I forgot...Robert Rebeck mixed Push Me Away in Kansas whilst we were here in Sydney.

Ok that's the 2nd time then. Much to look forward to as we whittle away at it.

The fun of the work continues, with much to be thought about and figured out.

Mr Wizard wants to release singles. One of the tracks from the project is already out, 'Better off without you', so I guess, we've started on that.

As part of the mid west triptych, I've been wondering about how to structure the final installment.

Each album has its own flavour, and SC9 will be released as a stand alone, but it's got me thinking about its relationship to the other parts.

Releasing all three albums as one release is definitely on the cards. It tells a geographic and musical story of the places we've been, the things we've seen, the music we've heard and the people we've played with.

It's artsy as fark.

11201871_844889942270022_919844360818389035_n.jpg

Ok, so yeah.

However....how does it fit together? Do we adjust the order of all the tracks to Geographic/Date/thematic, leave it as the same collection of three albums or add to it or...

I am not spending sleepless nights worrying about it. I am really enjoying the idea of figuring out what we mean by this work.

Maybe we just like to work. And that's ok too.

Notes on 542, live streaming, James Taylor, thanks Dr Tom and Doing The Things

Somebody told me James Taylor was playing last night. I'm sure he was, somewhere, but I didn't expect it to be Sydney. I wondered where. Then it was further explained that they were attempting to pay me a compliment.

Thank you. I like James Taylor. But I rate his tone the superior.

Speaking of singing well, Hollie Matthew opened the night and sang the bejeezus out of it. I did some live streaming to faciebook. If you're on our facie thing go look it up.

Cheers Hollie, good stuff.

So welcome to 2017.

In this 10th anniversary year, we are reminded to keep on doing the things that we do.

Friday night saw new song writing at rehearsal, first new song for 2017.

What was a country rock thing mixed with Japanese melodic structure turned Salsa fusion and I lost it laughing. Don't get me wrong, my soul cries out for some Salsa vibes, but oh my. Experiment, fail, learn, repeat.

Whilst the chaps were jamming, they hit on a new thing. great. I was testing Live Streaming, so I captured a record of the song to work on and tested my bandwidth and streaming.

So yes, Live Streaming is now a thing.

I'm meant to tell you OMG LIVE STREAMING OMG and then send a billion emails tweets and smoke signals about it.

0d3.jpg

But I am not going to.

We're into this for the time being.

Back at home base in our underground lair, I can edit vid for privacy.

Out in the Live Streaming world, well, anything can happen. Knowing when to not turn camera on is a big deal.

I was barely persuaded not to wear a head mounted camera last night. Next stop is Multi Streaming.

Another of the 'things' was having another go at lighting and multimedia. Cheers to Tom for the light show last night, the powered heads were great.

When the full fury of the Powered head LED turned stagewards, it was a bit like doing a gig for Sauron.

I forgot lyrics and felt like presenting my passport for some reason. Anyway.

After some experimenting, they worked out brilliantly. Thanks to Tom for the late night effort and to Dion for go pro filming.

Unique T shirt, live streaming, go pro filming, robotic light heads, excellent guest act. A good start to the year.

Shout outs to Ben, Viv, David, Renata and all the folks at the townie.

Let's go do some more things.

EDIT  7 Jan 2017 - sales on this one are now closed :-) That's the whole point with this project.

If you missed it, get the next one. Life and my T-Shirt making is random and ephemeral!

It's our 10th year. It's about time we celebrated.

For each show in 2017, custom art, custom t shirt. Thank Mr Wizards Japanese influences.

I'll only print these on demand, they'll only be available on a short time link, before the gig. That's gonna make'em pricey.

Each gig new art. New shirt.

Collect'em all or none at all or somewhere in between.

This is an art piece. Prices will vary, I don't actually expect anyone to buy them, but I am committed to the concept for my own amusement.

This is Show 542. The colours are Steel, Gold and White. The subject is Time.

PAYPAL LINK REMOVED! When I say limited edition I mean it :-)

2017 is here, back to work you lot. Not holiday camp for musicians!

In band parlance, we often quote the late great Jacky Orsaczy, who once famously said 'what is all this cup of tea nonsense, this isn't holiday camp for musicians!'

Our first show is this week. Oh crap better go do some art.

We started our next year last year, which makes this our April.

Time is relative. Like a cousin. Don't throw food at Time. Pipe down you two or I'm stopping the car this instant!
