After a lull in the winds, the breeze picks up and the good ship Stormcellar gets underway.

It's been a time all right. Daylight savings time slipped back an hour and the whole world seems to have slowed down. I'm sure it's just a localised time event.

Time (Custom).jpg

We're lucky to have the backup of each other. 10 years underground and we're still tight :-)

God bless Theo for looking after Mr Wizard.

Bill's just finished 6 months of prep for our touring, jeez what a crew.

In this age of the self propelled artist, ask not what someone else can do for your band, because there's no one else to do it :-)

The simple fact is that the easy money has gone from the music biz. People will pay for access, but not content. Yeah, you heard it here first. Me big brain think think smart. Eat fruit. Make Fire!

Finding the new way is the new way. Yeah that's right, Cogitate on that one all you Zen'ers out there.

Anyway I give away too much of our secret knowledge, Roger would demand I charge for it.

Meanwhile, the work continues, and after a few months of slow movement we're underway again.

Today I'm off to record some harmonies for Go Down Easy, from Defiance. Two lines worth, makes all the difference.

'Defiance' is scheduled for completion within April. Still a few things to add, 'Like a Stone' V1 & V2, 'Mama don't mind' (studio version) and 'Isn't how I wanted it' are the last tracks to reach mixing.

All the rest are in final tweak stage.

Whilst that is very pleasing, I'm more excited by the work we're doing on 3 new shiny things.

ooh! Shiny!

Each of the projects we've worked on has had its own theme, I've even made a list of them somewhere in these blogs but anyway...that's old hat.

I listen to the musical vibes the boys bring in. I am amazed at how close they are to the vibe of the society in which they live.

Right now, Bill, Mr Wizard and Rosie have produced some very chilled out acoustic stuff.

Mr Lynch has agreed to do some recording, and we're building the concept now.

Adding another Michael to the project is a good sign. From now on, we'll all be called Bruce. (give yourself 10 points if you get the python reference)

Defiance was last years vibe, now after all the stuff going, people want a little relief.

So we're working on an Acoustic Ear Bath. Nice songs. Chilled sounds.

That's the theory.

Lynchy is doing some crazy location-sound experiments later this year and we're going to be guinea pigs.

This project will explore some Nice Sounds. the sound of acoustic guitar in a resonant room. The sounds of the bush. All sorts of things.

The songs are moving to rehearsal and then to live gigs, we're talking dates, I'm location scouting and...importantly, the project has a Working Title...whoah...you know it's serious now.

ahhhh....

The benefit of all this is that it...unlocks capacity to work on the next batch of stuff!

I'm really keen to crack on with writing songs for Jo to sing, and Theo's got a project to start as well.

Oh yeah and then there's the.....

The sheer pleasure of making stuff. As often as we can, when we can.

Good times.

Happy Birthday Lindsay, thanks Garry. Get well soon Mac, you missed a great weekend.

The South Coast was jumping so we hit the inland route. A tank full of gas is a small price for the view.

On our way through we stopped in nimmitabel.  Yes that's right, we must have said 'inimitable' several times each. Funny each time huh?

Not so much.

Kelvin made us a cup of tea and invited us to join in the Monaro Blues Festival in a couple of weeks. Usually I'd just be happy with a biscuit to go with the tea. Thanks Kelvin.

Seeing the skies, doing the drive, listening to the stories people tell. Hearing Sparrow telling tall tales at the Federal. All the good things we get to do.

We raised a glass once again to John, to Brian and to Patricia. The show goes on.

I'm buggered after quite a bit of driving. We're in Coogee this coming weekend, I'll get around to some poster art for it after a well deservedzzzzzzzzzzzz...........zzzzzzzzzz.................

John boys last waltz was a good'un

Mr Wizard and I went to see John McC off today, at the Anglican church in Newtown.

A good attendance, and a good last gig.

We had raised a glass to John, with the audience, at the Townie on Friday night.

Today, we joined a host of local muso's, friends and family and saw him off with stories and songs.

As the funeral director walked slowly in front of the hearse on King St, it was the first time I've ever welcomed a disruption to traffic in Newtown.

John, we hardly knew ye.

True to his nature, he would have chided the speaker placement, but, as his long time mate KL said, finally a gig with no reverb.

It's one of the first times I have thought a funeral was wonderful. I don't know if John ever realised the depth of genuine warmth felt for him by so many people. I hope he did.

There's an old phrase that comes to mind; The best we may say of a man is that he lived respected and died regretted.

As his BFF Marcus noted, the word 'cantankerous' was well applied to John, but applied in smaller measure than his kindness and generosity.

Mr Wizard's truly bummed to lose a mate, and he's got another funeral to fly to this week. Crikey.

After John's muso mates had sung, his family and friends had spoken and the priest read a last benediction, they played a video of a moment where John stepped out from behind the mixing console to sing. Although I don't have that footage, it feels fitting and proper to play a version of the song.

Godspeed John McConnell. May the circle be unbroken, by and by.

Reaffirming life with creation - theme song to a spaghetti western from an alternate universe

Making stuff is the best response we can offer to our circumstances.

One of the items on our 2017 EPIC list was doing an online collaboration.

TICK!

I joined 'Game of Bands' on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/gameofbands/) which describes itself as the internet's longest running songwriting comp.

Working with Pedro in Portugal and Diego in Peru, I just did my first song in Spanish!

Muchas Gracias a Diego, Y Obrigado, Pedro!

I imagine my Spanish Accent will probably cause a lot of amusement to native Spanish Speakers. Por favor, perdoname :-)

Mr Wizard thinks I've lost my tiny little mind (again), shouldn't he be used to it after 10 years? But he's also keen on trying some stuff in Spanish and maybe even Japanese. Oh dear. What have I started?

Rosie thinks the guitar is great. I think the sentiments Diego wrote in Spanish are great.

So here it is, a theme song for a Spaghetti Western from an alternate universe.

It's part Radio Play, Part Portuguese 'Fado' and part completely random. Not bad for three people who met online a week ago. The great music is courtesy of Pedro.

There's a world of people out there making stuff. That's just great. Join in. Grab the google and do your thing!

I might see you out on the boards :-)
