We had a grand time at the Monaro Blues & Roots Festival.

When you look around you and realise that this is your life and that it's a good one. You travel amongst the kingdoms of clouds.

Listening to other muso's is one of the great joys of the gatherings. I heard some great tone from Dinesh and got some of his original song on video. Nice work.

He was worried that it wasnt blues. But it was better than being someones idea of a genre, it was simply true.

I dig this piece.

Travelling with your long term band mates does have its downside. When you look away and Rosie moves your cutlery off centre, knowing you'll unconsciously fix it, doing it again and again until you catch him. Amusing but it's not fun to pick on the OCD :-)

It's perfect autumn weather, brisk but not yet too cold. I wonder about people in Sydney who's world is bounded by the sea and the blue mountains. We live in a pretty big-ass country here. It's worth the drive.

and back to the emerald city.

As we returned, my new found friends on the internet started sending me videoclips. 

It's given me a new appreciation for how hard they are to make :-) on a $7 budget I'm up for anything, but even so, it's proved to me that you get what you pay for :-).

I'm still going to run the experiment a little longer, and I did expect a few fails, so we're tracking towards expected outcomes, but I still hold out high hopes that one of these random things is going to really surprise me.

Oh forgot to mention, we're now at final mixing on Defiance. We were listening to it, in the AJ's proposed order, on the drive :-) Yay.

Well that happened fast.

After a lull of a couple of months, all of the tracks are in.

Time for Tweaking and Track ordering.

Sounds massive. 

Meanwhile, the weird continues.

I've been snuffling around the web looking for fun stuff and finally after quite a few 'NO's' I thought I'd give one of the Microtasker sites a try.

Stopping at Fiverr, I decided I'd try getting 5 videos made on fiver.

Not the most original idea, yeah I know, but Letting Go Of Making The Clips is a big deal for me. I've been making them for the band for 10 years.

Letting someone else visualise them is a new thing so there you go. Could be great! Could be awful! Will definitely be fun.

Stand by and watch as the chaos unfolds.

Meanwhile, I've gone completely bonkers for collaboration.

I've acquired a taste for it.

Our way has been to do a 'studio'' album followed by an 'experimental' thing. Check the discography, it makes sense.

By the time we got to the Midwest Triptych, the lines got blurred somewhat.

But for some reason, it feels like right now is the time to be Experimental again. Defiance is almost here. It's canonical.

Over the last few weeks, I have sent out a bunch of emails, posted on Reddit, posted on Craigslist.

There are people on the internet who are reading some of my requests, probably wondering WTF, right this very minute.

I've called musical mates we have and sent people who don't know me emails asking if they'd like to join in.

On the one hand, oh dear. I may have lost it.

On the other, I can't wait to see what comes out of it!

We got a festival on Saturday. Long drive. Plenty of time to talk about completely random ideas.

BTW if you're one of those people, HI! Yes I was for real. Also the offer of Pizza (craigslist posters you know who you are).

Imma go do more stuff. This is fun.

Anyone for a trip to snow country! All right. 4-6, sat 22nd, Federal Hotel, Nimmitabel.

Captain Sam inspired me with his nautical adventures and now we're getting all Boaty.

We're hunting around for locations to record the 5D project. Larry sent me this suggestion, far out, what a beauty.

We've had a real awareness of location and sound, ever since Spacejunk - remember that old ricketty wooden hall at mangrove mountain with that glorious under-gained recording on wonky analogue tape...ahh...good times.

Hired Guns was worked from the drum sound up, from that big wooden reception room at Bawley Point.

For this next project we're going to work from the guitars out - at least for the first 2 D's in the project.

We'll record the guitar in situ, using the atmos and ambience....and then record everything else dry cos otherwise it'd interfere.

Mr Wizard and I did some initial location scouting today.

As per usual, not all of these ideas will work, but the fun's in the trying. Stay tuned.
