Chalk Angels

Can't come out to play

Ma says he’s feeling poorly

Put all his toys away

He learned his lesson early

The pavements in my neighbourhood

Cross yellow lines

Chalking angels on the kerb

Telling me not to ask them why

Don’t go outside today

You know you make’em nervous

Please don’t let them feel afraid

Those who protect and serve us

came into my neighbourhood,

I don’t know why

One more angel drawn in chalk

One more monster in outline

Monkey bars and swings and foozball games

When it’s light out you can stay up late

Mama’s calling better come inside don’t you hear

Pavements in my neighbourhood

Cross yellow lines

Something that I thought had changed

Is telling me I must comply

Don’t go outside today
